Exterior vs Interior 3D Rendering: Differences, Uses & Costs

Exterior vs Interior 3D Rendering: Differences, Uses & Costs

"Do I need exterior renders, interior renders, or both?" is the most common question we field on a first call. The honest answer depends on what you are trying to do — sell, approve, present, document or design. This post walks through the differences, the typical use cases, the cost delta and how to decide.

What is an exterior render?

An exterior render is a photoreal still image that shows a building from outside — façade, roof, surrounding landscape, sky, time of day. It captures massing, material, proportion and how the building sits in its setting. The hero shot of any real-estate brochure or planning submission is almost always an exterior. Our exterior service delivers daylight, twilight, aerial and street-level views.

What is an interior render?

An interior render is a photoreal still that shows a finished room from inside — furniture, lighting, materials, the way evening sun falls on a sofa. Interior renders sell apartments, close interior-design pitches and approve restaurant fitouts before a single piece of joinery is built. Our interior service covers residential, commercial and hospitality interiors.

When to choose exterior renders

  • Real-estate pre-sales. Buyers fall in love with the building before they pick a unit.
  • Planning permission. Local authorities respond better to photoreal proposals than line drawings.
  • Architectural pitches. The exterior is the public-facing argument for the project.
  • Hoardings and outdoor marketing. A great exterior holds attention from across a road.

When to choose interior renders

  • Interior-design client approval. Closes the gap between mood board and finished room.
  • Hospitality marketing. Restaurants, hotels and lobbies sell on interior atmosphere.
  • Off-plan unit sales. Buyers want to imagine themselves living in the apartment.
  • Showroom and retail design. Brand experience hinges on interior detail.

When to choose both

Almost every off-plan real-estate launch needs both — an exterior hero for top-of-funnel attention and a set of interiors for unit-type pre-sales. Most architecture-firm presentations also need both — the exterior to win the design argument and at least one interior to demonstrate that the design carries through to the daily experience of the space.
